The Houston Rockets officially clinched a playoff berth with a 116-108 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night at Kia Center. In a game where both teams battled fiercely, Houston’s late-game execution and defensive intensity proved to be the difference.
Eason’s All-Around Effort Fuels Rockets
Tari Eason delivered one of his most impactful performances of the season, contributing 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals to help the Rockets maintain control throughout the game. His defensive presence and hustle plays were crucial in key moments, allowing Houston to fend off multiple Magic runs.
Jalen Green led the Rockets in scoring with 24 points, while Alperen Şengün continued his strong season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Fred VanVleet added 18 points and 8 assists, providing veteran leadership as Houston secured their spot in the postseason.
Banchero Shines, But Magic Fall Short
Orlando’s young star Paolo Banchero put on a show, finishing with 31 points and 6 rebounds. Despite his strong performance, the Magic struggled to generate consistent offense in the second half.
Franz Wagner added 22 points, while Wendell Carter Jr. chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds. However, Houston’s ability to execute late in the game prevented Orlando from mounting a comeback.
Houston Seals the Game Late
The game remained close through three quarters, with Houston holding a slim 88-82 lead heading into the fourth. Orlando made a final push in the closing minutes, cutting the deficit to 106-104 with under three minutes left.
However, back-to-back three-pointers from VanVleet and Green, along with Eason’s defensive stops, allowed the Rockets to pull away and secure the victory.
What’s Next?
With the win, the Rockets improve to 45-25 and officially secure a playoff spot in the Western Conference. They’ll now look to improve their seeding as the postseason approaches.
The Magic drop to 32-38 and remain in the fight for a Play-In Tournament spot. With a tough schedule ahead, Orlando will need to string together wins to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Houston will face the New Orleans Pelicans next, while Orlando looks to bounce back against the Atlanta Hawks.
